The morning at Galaxy Auto Works starts with the soft growl of engines being tuned. For most people, it is just background sound. For Jitendra Dhuru, it is music that signals another day of problem-solving and creation. At 60, he has spent close to four decades surrounded by machines, people, and stories that have shaped him as much as he has shaped them.

Dhuru is not just a workshop owner. He is a mechanical engineer with more than 39 years of experience across mechanical, automobile, electrical, civil, and electronics fields. This mix of skills allows him to look at vehicles not just as machines but as systems where every component matters. People who know him say he is part engineer, part mentor, and part storyteller, with a knack for turning even a repair into a teaching moment.

Early Foundations and First Breakthroughs

His journey began in 1987, when he took over Genuine Engineering Works, the foundry built by his father. This was his first lesson in building solutions from scratch. Imported machines were difficult to get and expensive. Rather than wait, he designed what he needed himself.

Dhuru developed India’s first mobile AC gas recovery and recycling machine. Soon after, he built a mobile oil-immersed high-vacuum pump. These were not just engineering feats; they were statements that homegrown innovation could match global standards. Friends from that period recall his small workshop filled with dismantled compressors, cups of tea, and paper sketches of future tools.

In his words, “I am not satisfied just innovating; I want to create experiences.”  He loved drag racing and this gave him a taste for speed, risk, and precision. His fascination with vintage car restoration taught him patience and respect for craftsmanship. These two passions merged in 1989, when he founded Galaxy Auto Works’ His vision was very clear; he wantede a space where engineering precision and automotive passion could meet.

Nearly four decades later, the workshop stands as proof of that vision. Today, it is trusted by owners of Porsches, Lamborghinis, Bentleys, and other luxury vehicles who want more than a repair job. They want a place that understands the soul of their cars.

Walking into Galaxy Auto Works feels like stepping into two worlds at once. In one bay, a 1960s Mercedes might be having its carburetors tuned. In another bay, the latest technology is helping carry out digital diagnostics of a Porsche 911. This harmony between tradition and innovation has been deliberately maintained. Dhuru often describes his workshop as “a playground where engineering excellence meets automotive passion.”

Mentorship, Values, and Future Readiness

Galaxy Auto Works is more than a business. It is also a classroom. Dhuru regularly opens the doors of his workshop to engineering and management students. For many of them, this is their first time standing next to a Lamborghini engine or witnessing a vintage car restoration in Mumbai. Dhuru personally  encourages them to watch and ask questions. They are even allowed to try small tasks under guidance.

“Knowledge grows when it gets shared,” he often reminds his team. This approach has made new learnings a daily activity in the workshop.

Dhuru’s has a holistic work approach. This comes from his knowledge in multiple disciplines. This makes him see problems from every angle. He is commonly found repeating this line to his team, “Every solution must be complete before the first spanner is turned.”

Values are visible everywhere in the workshop. The phrases “Teamwork through Trust and Respect” and “Commitment to Customer Enthusiasm” are painted on the walls. They are reminders that engineering excellence is not enough without strong relationships and respect for clients.

Galaxy Auto Works draws its roots in tradition. Simultaneously, it is also ready for the future. Dhuru ensures he upgrades both the garage and the workforce to handle hybrid and electric vehicles. The BMW iX, Mercedes EQ, and Audi e-tron are all being regularly serviced here. He believes that respecting heritage and preparing for change can go hand in hand.

He himself grabs every opportunity to learn new things. He reads biographies of great thinkers, leaders, and innovators. Their quotes are a regular part of his communication with his team. APJ Abdul Kalam’s thoughts on perseverance or Bruce McLaren’s philosophy of racing are a regular part of his conversations. These create moments in the workshop floor where lessons about life are shared along with lessons about engineering.

For the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs, Dhuru’s story carries timeless lessons. Passion is the ultimate business plan. It is what kept him motivated through economic ups and downs. Innovation is simply finding solutions when resources are limited. Staying hands-on keeps a leader grounded and credible. Mentorship is a responsibility that creates impact far beyond the workshop floor. Culture indeed rules when trust and respect are part of the workday. Most customers notice the difference.

Galaxy Auto Works continues to act as a bridge between past and future. Vintage cars leave their bays with a second life, while modern supercars receive the care they need to stay in peak shape. For Dhuru, the workshop is not just a business. “It is not just about fixing cars but about building legacies and empowering minds,” he says quietly, watching a freshly restored Bentley head out into the Mumbai sunlight.

Readers who want to know more about his work can visit Galaxy Auto Works and experience how passion and precision come together in one of Mumbai’s most trusted automotive destinations.
