BJP Mobilizes for Nagaon Bypoll with Ambitious Vote Target

Shillong, India Jul 19, 2026 ALN: The Morigaon Assembly Constituency Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a massive public meeting in Morigaon town to prepare for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election and the Tiwa Autonomous Council election. This meeting is part of the BJP's broader strategy to strengthen its foothold in Assam, particularly in the Nagaon district, where the party has been actively working to consolidate its voter base in light of the impending elections.

Despite the intense heat, over 5,000 BJP leaders and workers from the Morigaon constituency gathered at Morigaon Bihutoli, symbolically sounding the election bugle. The meeting commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the singing of Vande Mataram, a hymn that has become synonymous with the Indian independence movement and is often used to evoke national pride and unity.

As the chief speaker, Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deori addressed the gathering, stating that he had been elected as the MLA for the third time due to the blessings and support of the people. His repeated electoral victories reflect not only his personal popularity but also the BJP's growing influence in the region. Deori urged the electorate to ensure a record voter turnout in the forthcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, appealing to the people of Morigaon to help the BJP secure 90,000 more votes than the Congress candidate, thereby creating a new electoral record. Deori noted that although the constitutional tenure of the council had already been extended by six months, the current council authorities were lobbying for another six-month extension by approaching ministers and making repeated appeals. Referring to his discussions with the Chief Minister, Deori stated that the Chief Minister had made it clear that no further extension would be granted and that elections to the Tiwa Autonomous Council would be held soon. He remarked that these individuals behaved like Congress supporters in Morigaon while presenting themselves as BJP members in Jagiroad and Guwahati.
