A detailed look at the property interests of Scottish Parliament MSPs reveals that 18 are landlords and nine have second homes or commercial properties.
London, United Kingdom Jul 17, 2026 ALN: There are 18 MSPs in the Scottish Parliament who are landlords, and nine who have second homes, commercial properties, or shares in real estate companies.
Overall, a fifth of the new cohort of MSPs (27) have property interests.
But who are they, how much money do they make each year and how many properties do they own?
All six Holyrood parties have MSPs who are landlords.
Following an analysis of each MSP's registers of interests, we’ve broken it down by party.

Eight of Reform’s 17 MSPs have property interests.

Rental properties: One, a house in Cape Town, valued at up to £1 million.
Estimated income: The property is currently not being let. Offord’s register says it previously generated up to £30,000 a year.
Second home: The Reform Scotland leader has four additional homes that he does not receive rental income from. A flat in Inverclyde worth £200,000, a flat on the Isle of Wight valued at £1.3m, a house in Argyll and Bute worth £1.6m, and a London flat valued at £1.8m.

Rental properties: A cottage holiday let in Dumfries and Galloway valued at £300,000.
Estimate income: £10,000 a year.
Second home: No, but Beresford owns three commercial properties in Dumfries and Galloway. One she does not receive income from, the other two give her a combined £20,000 a year in rental income.

Rental properties: A flat in East Lothian worth £250,000.
Estimated income: Until October 2025, £5000 a year.

Rental properties: A flat in the Canary Islands worth £150,000 and a flat in Edinburgh valued at £200,000.
Estimated income: Up to £25,000 a year from both properties.

Second home: A cottage in East Lothian worth £250,000. Ross does not receive income from the property.

Second home: Co-owns a maisonette flat in East Lothian worth £150,000 with her two sisters. Her mother lives in the property and she does not derive any income from it.

Second home: A flat in London worth £500,000, which he does not receive rental income for.

McDade has a 50% share of a commercial shop in South Lanarkshire valued at £100,000. It generates rental income of £10,000 a year.

Estimated income: He receives half of the annual income of up to £10,000 a year.

Estimated income: Up to £10,000 a year.

Rental properties: Two properties, a house in Clackmannanshire valued at £400,000 and part-owner of a flat in East Lothian, worth £250,000, which he doesn’t receive income from.
Estimated income: £20,000 a year from the house in Clackmannanshire.

Rental properties: A house, a furnished holiday let, in the Highland area valued at £400,000.
Estimated income: £10,000 a year.

Second home: A 50% share in a house in Edinburgh worth £500,000. Smith says his parents reside in the house and he doesn’t receive any income from it.

Beattie is an unremunerated director of Ben Sheann Enterprises Ltd, which buys and sells real estate. Beattie holds 50% of issued share capital, valued at £106,000.
Alexander Burnett, Aberdeenshire West
Rental properties: Various. He is the Trustee of the Banchory Trust and Fordie Trust, both of which own property in Aberdeenshire which generate income. The Banchory Trust owns property valued at £17.2m, while Fordie Trust owns property worth £4.8m.
He also owns AJA Burnett estate which has “residential and commercial lettings” and is valued at £18.2m.
Estimated income: The Banchory Trust properties generate income of up to £430,000 a year, while the Fordie Trust generates up to £190,000 a year. AJA Burnett estate generates £850,000 of income a year, “excluding any one-off property transactions”.

Estimated income: Up to £15,000 a year.

Rental properties: Three. Properties in Fraserburgh, Badenoch and Strathspey, and Aberdeen.
Estimated income: Unknown, Adam’s register has not been published as he recently replaced Douglas Lumsden after he became MP for Aberdeen South. He describes himself as a self-employed landlord on his Aberdeenshire council register of interests.

Second home: A 16.67% share of a house in Wakefield valued at £400,000. This is understood to be inherited, and the property is currently occupied by a family member.

Second home: No, but Ahmed has two commercial properties he also receives income from in Edinburgh and Lothians East. One worth £100,000 and another worth £400,000. He makes £40,000 a year from both.

Estimated income: £5000 a year.
