Odisha Government Mandates Immediate Use of Revised Spellings for Administrative Units

Bhubaneswar, India Jul 20, 2026 ALN: Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday directed the administration in all districts to immediately implement the revised spellings of the names of districts, sub-divisions, tehsils, blocks, and urban local bodies in all official records and communications.

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department issued instructions to all District Magistrates to ensure the mandatory use of the revised spellings in every sphere of official work. Additional Chief Secretary Arabinda Kumar Padhee has issued a communication to the districts in this regard.

The move follows the notification issued by the state government on June 22, revising the spellings of the names of administrative units to better reflect their original Odia pronunciation.
