A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall damaged a house in Lakhuti Village, Wokha, prompting a public advisory from the District Disaster Management Authority.

A landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall caused significant damage to a house in Lakhuti Village, Wokha district, on July 19. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.

According to local sources, the landslide impacted the rear portion of the house owned by Wosumo Enni, leading to the collapse of a section of the wall. The force of the landslide resulted in mud, rocks, and debris crashing into the structure, severely damaging the interior. One room was filled with debris, and cracks appeared on the remaining walls.

Public Advisory Issued

In response to the situation, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Wokha issued a public advisory urging residents to remain vigilant due to the heightened risk of flooding, landslides, mudslides, and damage to public infrastructure.

The advisory emphasized the importance of avoiding flood-affected and landslide-prone areas. Residents were advised to refrain from unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and to stay away from unstable slopes and retaining walls. Additionally, those living in vulnerable locations were encouraged to relocate to safer areas if necessary.

Monitoring and Reporting

The DDMA further requested the public to closely monitor official weather updates and to report any emergencies immediately. This includes incidents of landslides, flooding, damage to houses, road blockages, or individuals in distress.

Assuring the public of their commitment to safety, the district administration stated that they were closely monitoring the situation and had activated necessary response mechanisms to ensure public safety.

As the monsoon season continues, residents are urged to stay informed and take precautions to safeguard themselves and their properties.
