A Tiranga rally in Mairang, organized by the Central Bureau of Communication, aimed to foster patriotism and promote the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative among students and the community.

The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in association with the Eastern West Khasi Hills District Administration, organised an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) on the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School on Thursday.

A Tiranga rally formed a major part of the programme, bringing together students, government officials, teachers and members of the public to promote patriotism, national unity and social responsibility. The rally is a part of a broader initiative aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and pride among citizens, particularly among the youth, who are seen as the torchbearers of the nation’s future.

The rally was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner M. Diengdoh in the presence of CBC Assistant Director Gopajit Das, School Principal C. War, police and district administration officials, CBC representatives, teachers and a large number of students. The presence of various stakeholders highlights the collaborative effort required to address these significant social issues.

The rally proceeded from the school to the nearby market, with students carrying the messages of Har Ghar Tiranga, unity in diversity and Nasha Mukt Bharat to the wider community. This outreach is crucial as it not only raises awareness but also encourages community participation in national campaigns that aim to enhance social cohesion and promote healthier lifestyles.

Addressing the gathering, ADC M. Diengdoh urged citizens, particularly students, to actively participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign by displaying the National Flag at homes, schools, offices and other prominent locations. The Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, which translates to 'Every Home a Flag', is an initiative aimed at instilling a sense of patriotism and reminding citizens of their national identity, especially in a diverse country like India.

Diengdoh described the Tricolour as a powerful symbol of India’s unity in diversity and encouraged young people to carry the spirit of patriotism into their daily lives. This notion of unity in diversity is particularly resonant in a country with a multitude of cultures, languages, and traditions, and serves as a reminder that despite differences, all citizens share a common identity as Indians.

Speaking on the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, which translates to 'Drug-Free India', Diengdoh urged students to make healthy and responsible choices, stressing the importance of self-discipline, positive peer influence and a supportive environment in helping young people achieve their potential. This campaign is part of a national strategy to combat the growing issue of substance abuse, which has been identified as a significant challenge for youth across India.

He encouraged students to become ambassadors of positive change by spreading awareness about the dangers of substance abuse among their families, friends and communities. The role of youth in this context is pivotal, as they can influence their peers and create a ripple effect that promotes healthier choices within their social circles.

Principal C. War appreciated the initiative and highlighted the role of educational institutions in nurturing responsible, confident and socially conscious citizens. Schools are often seen as the first place where values of patriotism and social responsibility can be instilled, making their involvement in such campaigns vital.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening national unity while recognising India’s rich cultural diversity. This balance between unity and diversity is essential for fostering a harmonious society where all individuals feel valued and included.

SI E. Marbaniang, who served as a resource person, briefed students on substance abuse and its impact on individuals, families and society. He explained the risks associated with different forms of drugs, highlighted the importance of recognising early warning signs and encouraged students to support peers and seek timely assistance when necessary. Education about substance abuse is crucial, as awareness can lead to prevention and early intervention, which are key in addressing the issue effectively.

The programme also featured a patriotic dance competition, with students presenting energetic performances celebrating India’s unity, diversity and patriotism. Such cultural activities not only engage students but also reinforce the themes of the campaign in a fun and memorable way. Art and quiz competitions were also organised around the themes of national unity, patriotism and a drug-free India, further encouraging students to think critically about these important issues.

Winners and participants were felicitated with prizes, encouraging students to engage actively in the awareness programme. Recognition of their efforts serves to motivate students to continue participating in such initiatives, fostering a culture of involvement and activism among the youth.

The event concluded with a message of pride in the Tricolour, unity in diversity and collective responsibility towards building a healthier and Nasha Mukt Bharat, with students encouraged to carry the campaign’s messages from their school to their homes and communities. The emphasis on collective responsibility is particularly significant, as it highlights that the task of building a drug-free society and promoting patriotism is not solely the responsibility of the government or organizations, but of every citizen.

This rally and the associated programmes reflect a growing recognition of the need to address social issues through community engagement and education. As India continues to navigate the challenges posed by substance abuse and the need for national unity, initiatives like the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan play a vital role in shaping the values and behaviors of future generations. The active participation of youth in these campaigns not only empowers them but also ensures that the messages of patriotism and health consciousness resonate throughout society, creating a more informed and responsible citizenry.
