Three Arrested in Risa Colony Homestay Vandalism Incident

Shillong, India Jul 13, 2026 ALN: East Khasi Hills Police have arrested three adults and three minors in connection with the alleged vandalism and intimidation at a homestay in Risa Colony, with police stating that a chargesheet will be filed at the earliest.

Addressing the media on Monday, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem said the incident came to light after a complaint was lodged on July 11 regarding vandalism and threats at a homestay named Oak in Risa Colony.

“With regard to the incident which happened at the homestay in Risa Colony by the name Oak, we received a complaint on July 11 that two people had threatened and vandalized the guest house and they left without making compensation for the same,” Syiem said.

The SP said two separate cases were registered, following which police immediately launched an operation to trace the accused. This prompt response underscores the police's commitment to addressing criminal activities swiftly, especially in areas frequented by tourists.

“Two cases were registered and immediately a team was sent. The very next day, that was yesterday, to trace these people we were in touch with our counterparts from Assam—SP Kokrajhar, SP Alipurduar and a team from Sapatgram,” he said. According to Syiem, the suspects were intercepted at around 4:45 pm on Sunday. “At about 4:45 PM we intercepted these people by the names of Vikas Singh, Avinash Singh, Akand Pratap Singh and three other minors, about 17 years old,” he said. Following their interception by the Alipurduar Police, a team from East Khasi Hills travelled to West Bengal, formally arrested the accused and produced the adult suspects before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Alipurduar. “After the interception by Alipurduar Police, our team from here had gone there and arrested them and produced them before the court of the CGM in Alipurduar. However, as the offences are punishable with less than seven years, they have been granted bail,” Syiem said. The investigation will carry on to ensure that we chargesheet them at the earliest,” Syiem said.
