Srinagar Prepares for Independence Day Celebrations with Enthusiasm

Leh, India Aug 12, 2026 ALN: Elaborate arrangements are being put in place across Srinagar for Independence Day celebrations, with the main Union Territory-level function scheduled to be held at Bakshi Stadium, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, Garg said that preparations for the August 15 celebrations are being carried out on multiple fronts, including the participation of parade contingents, cultural programmes and illumination of important government and public buildings in the national Tricolour theme.

“As usual, the 15th August UT-level event is being organised in Srinagar at Bakshi Stadium. Different arrangements related to parade contingents, cultural programmes and illumination of buildings on the Tricolour theme are being carried out,” the Divisional Commissioner said.

Independence Day, celebrated annually on August 15, marks the day in 1947 when India gained independence from British rule. The day is observed with great fervor across the nation, and in Jammu and Kashmir, it holds particular significance given the region's unique historical and political context. He said a colourful Tricolour-themed rally will be organised from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) to the Botanical Garden in Srinagar at 7 am on August 12.
