ITANAGAR, 21 Jul: Fresh floods triggered by incessant rain have hit five districts in over the last 24 hours, affecting nearly 1.49 lakh people across the state, officials reported on Tuesday.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), fresh flood and other rain-related incidents were reported from Siang, Papum Pare, West Kameng, Kamle, and Lower Siang districts, impacting six administrative circles. The situation has escalated rapidly, leading to significant concerns regarding the safety and well-being of the affected populations.

Flash floods inundated Kallek village in Kebang circle of Siang district, causing extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. Many residents were forced to evacuate their homes, seeking shelter in higher ground or temporary relief camps set up by local authorities. In Papum Pare, heavy rain affected Balijan and Tarasso villages in Balijan and Tarasso circles, while Lish village in Dirang circle of West Kameng, Yada village in Raga circle of Kamle, and Jipu village in Likabali circle of Lower Siang also reported rain-related damages.

The ongoing spell of floods and landslides has claimed seven lives, injured 29 people, and left two others missing, while affecting 149,392 people across the state, the SEOC said.
