CM Praises DRDO for Successful 'Kusha' Missile Test

Itanagar, India Jul 26, 2026 ALN: ITANAGAR, 25 Jul: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on the successful maiden flight test of the indigenous ‘Kusha’ long-range surface-to-air missile.

Sharing a video of the official visual coverage of the flight test, Khandu in a social media post wished the scientists, engineers, industry partners, and defence personnel involved in the landmark event, saying that every successful indigenous system enhances national security and technological self-reliance.

“Congratulations to and all the scientists, engineers, industry partners, and defence personnel behind the successful maiden flight-test of the ‘Kusha’ Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile,” the chief minister said.

Highlighting the significance of the achievement, Khandu said, “This achievement strengthens India’s indigenous air defence capability, reduces dependence on imports, and reflects the growing strength of the #AatmanirbharBharat vision. Every successful indigenous system enhances our national security and technological self-reliance.”

The maiden test of the missile system was conducted by the DRDO from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on 23 July. During the test, the interceptor missile successfully destroyed a target simulating a high-speed, high-altitude aerial threat.
