A&N Police Strengthens Commitment to Drug-Free Society and Maritime Security

Port Blair, India Jul 21, 2026 ALN: A team of media personnel today called on the Director General of Police, Mr. Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS, at the Police Headquarters here. During the meeting, the DGP reiterated the Police department’s firm commitment to creating a completely drug-free society through a combination of strict enforcement and sustained public awareness.

The issue of drug abuse is a pressing concern in many societies, including the and , where the unique geographical landscape can make the region vulnerable to drug trafficking. To strengthen coastal policing and maritime security, the Police department has commenced a 21-day intensive training programme on ‘Marine Policing’ for Home Guard Volunteers of A&N Police at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI), Sri Vijaya Puram. This training is particularly significant given the ' extensive coastline and maritime borders, which necessitate specialized skills to monitor and secure these areas effectively. The involvement of Home Guard Volunteers in this training program underscores the importance of community participation in policing efforts, particularly in coastal regions where local knowledge can be invaluable.

A modern Forensic Training Laboratory has also been established, where police personnel will receive specialized forensic training to enhance scientific investigation capabilities. Additionally, four more Fast Interceptor Boats have been acquired, adding to the existing fleet of marine speed boats. Mr. Ravindra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, is a 1995-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer who assumed charge as the head of the A&N Police in June 2026.
