The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission's Hospital Management Information System is now operational at Mayabunder Hospital and Tugapur PHC, enhancing healthcare services.

As part of the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) across the Union Territory, the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) has been made operational at Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder and Primary Health Centre (PHC), Tugapur. With this implementation, both healthcare institutions are now digitally enabled, aiding in seamless and efficient patient services.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, launched by the Government of India, aims to create a digital health ecosystem in the country. This mission is designed to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of healthcare services, making them more patient-centric. The introduction of the HMIS at these healthcare facilities is a significant step towards realizing the objectives of the ABDM by integrating technology into healthcare delivery.

Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder was onboarded onto the NextGen eHospital platform last year, while PHC Tugapur was onboarded onto eSushrut Lite HMIS on July 24, 2026, marking another significant milestone in the digital transformation of healthcare services in the region. The formal launch of the eSushrut Lite HMIS at PHC Tugapur was attended by Dr. Shailaja P., Chief Medical Officer In-charge, Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder, along with Medical Officers from both institutions. This collaborative effort emphasizes the importance of teamwork in the healthcare sector, especially in rural and semi-urban areas where access to quality healthcare can be limited.

The eSushrut Lite HMIS provides digital OPD registration and e-Prescription services, thereby streamlining patient registration, maintaining Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), reducing paperwork, enhancing transparency, and improving the overall quality and efficiency of healthcare service delivery. This system not only benefits healthcare providers but also significantly improves the patient experience by minimizing waiting times and ensuring that medical histories are readily accessible to healthcare professionals.

During the launch, Dr. Shailaja P. encouraged all healthcare personnel to actively use the eSushrut Lite HMIS and emphasized its significant role in improving patient care, hospital administration, and the delivery of quality healthcare services. Dr. Arnold Ashu, Specialist (Anaesthetist), Dr. Alice Bwa, Medical Officer, and Dr. N. Haney Nickyson, Medical Officer, PHC Tugapur, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of adopting digital healthcare systems. Their insights reflect a growing recognition within the medical community of the necessity for modernization in healthcare practices.

Mr. Protap Dhali, Assistant Project Coordinator, ABDM, also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the importance of the digital health infrastructure being developed under the ABDM. He pointed out that the integration of technology into healthcare not only streamlines processes but also fosters a culture of accountability and transparency, which is essential for building trust with patients.

The public visiting Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder and PHC Tugapur are advised to carry their ABHA Card or their Aadhaar-linked mobile number to facilitate quicker OPD registration and easy access to their digital health records through the ABHA App. The ABHA App can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and enables users to securely access and manage their digital health records from anywhere in the country. This feature is particularly beneficial for patients who may need to consult multiple healthcare providers or seek treatment in different locations, as it ensures that their health information is always available at their fingertips.

The implementation of the HMIS is not just a technological upgrade; it represents a paradigm shift in how healthcare services are delivered in India. By digitizing patient records and streamlining administrative processes, the healthcare system can focus more on patient care rather than paperwork. This shift is especially crucial in the context of the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has underscored the need for efficient healthcare delivery mechanisms.

Moreover, the successful deployment of the HMIS in Mayabunder and Tugapur could serve as a model for other regions in the Union Territory and beyond. As more healthcare facilities adopt similar digital solutions, it is expected that the overall healthcare landscape in India will undergo significant improvements. This will not only enhance the quality of care provided to patients but also contribute to better health outcomes across the population.

As the ABDM continues to roll out its initiatives, it is essential for stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, government bodies, and the public, to actively engage with these digital tools. The success of such systems relies heavily on user adoption and feedback, which can help refine the technology and address any challenges that may arise during its implementation.

In conclusion, the launch of the Hospital Management Information System at Dr. R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder, and PHC Tugapur marks a significant advancement in the digital transformation of healthcare services within the Union Territory. It highlights the commitment of the Indian government to leverage technology in improving healthcare delivery, ensuring that citizens have access to quality healthcare services that are efficient, transparent, and patient-centered.

To provide further context, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is part of a broader strategy aimed at transforming healthcare delivery across India. The mission seeks to bridge the gap in healthcare access, particularly for underserved populations, by leveraging digital technologies. The significance of the HMIS lies not only in its immediate benefits but also in its potential to integrate with other digital health initiatives under the ABDM framework.

Historically, healthcare in India has faced numerous challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of standardized processes, and limited access to quality care in rural areas. The introduction of digital systems like HMIS addresses these challenges by promoting efficiency, accountability, and better patient outcomes. For instance, by maintaining electronic health records, healthcare providers can ensure continuity of care, reduce errors, and enhance the overall patient experience.

Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for digital transformation in healthcare. The pandemic highlighted vulnerabilities in the existing healthcare systems, prompting a shift towards remote consultations and digital health records. The HMIS at Dr. R. P. Hospital and PHC Tugapur is a timely response to these challenges, ensuring that healthcare services remain resilient and responsive to the needs of the population.

Looking ahead, the successful implementation of the HMIS could pave the way for further innovations in healthcare delivery. As more healthcare facilities adopt digital solutions, the potential for data analytics, telemedicine, and personalized healthcare increases. These advancements can lead to more informed decision-making, improved patient outcomes, and a more efficient healthcare system overall.

In summary, the launch of the Hospital Management Information System at Mayabunder and Tugapur is a pivotal moment in the journey towards a digitally empowered healthcare ecosystem in India. It represents a commitment to improving healthcare access, quality, and efficiency, ultimately benefiting patients and healthcare providers alike. As stakeholders continue to engage with these digital tools, the hope is that they will contribute to a healthier future for all citizens.
