C-Edge College Hosts 14th Freshers’ Week with Grand Celebrations

The festivities culminated in a grand finale held at the G.K. Auditorium on Friday, marking a significant event in the college calendar that welcomes new students into the academic community.

This year’s Freshers’ Week was graced by the presence of Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei, the founder of CAN Youth and the General Secretary of the Alliance for Children and Women’s Rights, who attended as the guest speaker. His participation underscores the college's dedication to not only academic growth but also to fostering social awareness and responsibility among students. During his address, Rongmei delivered an inspiring message, encouraging the freshers to embrace their individuality and to speak with confidence. He emphasized the importance of making their voices heard in a world that often prioritizes conformity over personal expression. Furthermore, he urged students to cultivate critical thinking skills, to ask questions, and to remain vigilant against complacency, which can hinder personal and intellectual growth.

The Freshers’ Week is traditionally a time for new students to acclimate to their surroundings, meet fellow students, and engage with faculty and staff. One of the highlights of the program was the presentation of the annual college awards, which recognize outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements among students. The awards ceremony was presided over by Daisy Shitio, the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, who acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the students.

The Best Star Attendance Award was presented to several deserving students, including Zakali Zhimo from the BA II Semester, Kaophen C. Phom and Chongmei C. Phom from the BA IV Semester, Yimtsula K from the BA VI Semester, Supriya Patnayak from the BBA II Semester, Imnamongla Longkumer from the BBA IV Semester, and Onentsung from the BBA VI Semester. These awards serve to motivate students to maintain strong attendance records, which are crucial for academic success.

In addition to attendance awards, the college took the opportunity to honor its academic achievers. Khrozo-u Kapfo, a student in the BA program, received a cash award of Rs. 5,000 for securing the 7th rank in Psychology under the university. The Viwhesieno (Tsuno) Award for Girls’ Topper, which also carried a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, was jointly awarded to Nikhuli Achumi from the BBA program and Khrozo-u Kapfo. These awards not only recognize individual excellence but also serve as an inspiration for other students to strive for academic success.

Furthermore, the C-Edge Laurel Award (Even Semester) 2026 was presented to students who achieved the highest GPA in their respective semesters. Recipients of this prestigious award included Inaka Chophy (BA IV Semester), Zuthoto Phesa-o (BA VI Semester), Supriya Patnayak (BBA II Semester), Imnamongla Longkumer (BBA IV Semester), and Nikhuli Achumi (BBA VI Semester). Such recognition reinforces the importance of academic performance and encourages a culture of excellence within the college.

Neamkoe S from the BA I Semester delivered the freshmen’s address, articulating the hopes and aspirations of the new students. One of the most anticipated segments of Freshers’ Week was the Mr. and Ms. Fresher 2026 Spotlight Walk, which featured the top 10 finalists who underwent four days of grooming and orientation. This event was moderated by Assistant Professors Seema Debnath and Masangheing, who guided the participants through the competition. The crowning of Tokai Yepthomi and Neamkoe S as Mr. and Ms. Fresher 2026 was a moment of celebration, while B. Dolim and Sentienla Jamir were declared runners-up. The event also included subtitle winners, with Putumeren and Kumzuksangla being recognized as Mr. and Ms. Talented, and Khrukuzo Puro and Sokumla Y awarded as Mr. and Ms. Ethnic. This segment of the program not only highlighted the talents of the participants but also promoted diversity and inclusivity within the college community.

The celebrations were further enriched by a musical performance by Tsutanso and Endtoli, who entertained the audience and added a festive atmosphere to the event. The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Tsushila Y, the Assistant General Secretary of the C-Edge College Students’ Forum (CECSF), who expressed gratitude to all participants, organizers, and attendees for making the Freshers’ Week a memorable occasion.
