The Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University awarded certificates to 700 graduates, promoting higher education through Open and Distance Learning.

Guwahati: The Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) awarded original pass certificates to 700 learners during a special programme, marking a significant milestone for graduates while promoting higher education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system.

Around 350 graduates attended the event to receive their certificates from the Vice Chancellor of KKHSOU, Professor Rajendra Prasad Das. The remaining learners who were unable to attend have been requested to collect their certificates from the designated study centre within the week. This distribution of certificates not only symbolizes the academic achievements of the graduates but also serves as a reminder of the transformative power of education in shaping individual lives and communities.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Das congratulated the graduates on their academic achievements and encouraged them to embrace lifelong learning and use their knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions to society. He highlighted that education is a continuous journey and urged the graduates to remain inquisitive and engaged in their respective fields. This emphasis on lifelong learning is particularly relevant in today's fast-paced world, where the ability to adapt and acquire new skills is crucial for personal and professional growth.

The programme was attended by Dr Kamala Kanta Bora, Principal of Mangaldai College, Dr Ridip Dev Choudhury, Dean (Study Centre), in charge, KKHSOU, and Shri Birinchi Kumar Borah, Assistant Registrar (Study Centre), KKHSOU. The dignitaries emphasised the vital role of open and distance learning in expanding access to quality higher education and encouraged aspiring students to explore the University's academic offerings. They underscored the importance of ODL in democratizing education, making it accessible to those who may not have the opportunity to attend traditional brick-and-mortar institutions due to various constraints such as geographical location, financial limitations, or other personal commitments.

The event also served as an outreach platform for admissions to the July–August 2026 academic session. University officials provided information on undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate programmes, explaining the admission process, learner support services and the flexibility offered through the ODL mode. This outreach is crucial as it helps prospective students understand the diverse academic pathways available to them and how they can tailor their educational journeys to fit their individual needs and circumstances. The flexibility of the ODL model allows learners to balance their studies with work and other responsibilities, making it an attractive option for many.

Open and Distance Learning has emerged as a vital educational model, particularly in regions with limited access to conventional educational institutions. It allows learners from various backgrounds to pursue higher education without the constraints of time and location. The KKHSOU has been at the forefront of promoting this educational model in Assam and has seen significant growth in enrollment numbers over the years. The university's commitment to providing quality education through ODL is reflected in its diverse range of programmes designed to cater to the needs of different learners.

Furthermore, the event highlighted the importance of community engagement and networking among alumni. An alumni registration drive was also organised to strengthen the University's alumni network by reconnecting former learners with their alma mater and encouraging long-term engagement with the KKHSOU community. Alumni play a crucial role in the ecosystem of any educational institution, as they not only serve as ambassadors of the university but also contribute to its growth and development through their professional achievements and experiences. By fostering a strong alumni network, KKHSOU aims to create a supportive community that can provide mentorship, guidance, and opportunities for current students.

- KKHSOU Secures UGC Approval to Launch Science Programmes in ODL Mode

In a significant development, KKHSOU has also secured approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to launch science programmes in the ODL mode. This move is expected to greatly enhance the university's academic offerings and attract a broader range of students interested in pursuing careers in science and technology. The introduction of science programmes is a critical step towards diversifying the curriculum and meeting the educational demands of the region.

The inclusion of science courses in the ODL framework is particularly relevant in the context of the increasing importance of science and technology in today's world. With rapid advancements in various scientific fields, there is a growing need for a workforce that is well-versed in scientific principles and practices. By offering science programmes, KKHSOU aims to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in these dynamic fields.

This development also aligns with the broader goals of the Indian government to promote higher education and research in science and technology. By expanding access to quality science education through ODL, KKHSOU is contributing to the national vision of creating a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and economic growth.

In conclusion, the recent graduation ceremony at KKHSOU not only celebrated the achievements of its graduates but also reinforced the university's commitment to promoting open learning and expanding access to higher education. Through its innovative ODL model and diverse academic offerings, KKHSOU is paving the way for a more inclusive educational landscape in Assam and beyond. As the university continues to evolve and adapt to the changing educational environment, it remains dedicated to empowering learners and fostering a culture of lifelong learning that will benefit individuals and society as a whole.
