Qatar's creatives are invited to design the official poster for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2027, with a cash prize of QAR15,000 for the winner.

Liwan, in partnership with the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF), has announced the launch of the second Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2027 Poster Design Competition, following the success of the inaugural competition in 2025. This initiative aims to engage the vibrant artistic community within Qatar, providing an avenue for local creatives to showcase their talents on an international platform.

The Qatar ExxonMobil Open is a prominent event in the ATP Tour calendar, attracting top tennis players from around the globe. As a key fixture in the region's sporting landscape, the tournament not only promotes tennis but also serves as a cultural exchange, bringing together diverse audiences and fostering a spirit of competition and camaraderie. By involving local designers in the creation of the tournament's visual identity, the organizers aim to deepen the connection between the event and the Qatari community.

The competition invites designers, illustrators, artists, and creative practitioners residing in Qatar to participate in creating the official poster for this prestigious international sporting event. This is a significant opportunity for Qatar-based creatives, allowing them to contribute to the visual narrative of a tournament that is celebrated for its high level of competition and its reflection of Qatar's cultural heritage.

Organizers encourage submissions that capture the excitement, legacy, and global spirit of the tournament while reflecting Qatar’s rich cultural identity through original and compelling visual storytelling. This approach is not only about aesthetics; it is also about conveying the essence of the tournament and its significance within the broader context of sports and culture in Qatar.

Both emerging designers and established creative professionals are invited to submit innovative interpretations that celebrate the intersection of sport, culture, and design. This inclusivity is a hallmark of the competition, ensuring that a wide range of perspectives and artistic expressions are considered. By doing so, the competition aims to highlight the diversity and creativity present within the Qatari design community.

Selected entries will be reviewed by a panel of distinguished professionals from the fields of design, art, and sport. This panel will assess the submissions based on various criteria, including originality, creativity, and artistic quality, ensuring that the chosen artwork resonates with both the tournament's ethos and the cultural landscape of Qatar. The winning artwork will become the official visual identity for the tournament, symbolizing the spirit of competition and the celebration of tennis.

The winning designer will receive a cash prize of QAR15,000, along with a one-year membership at Liwan Design Studios and Labs. This membership provides access to valuable resources and networking opportunities, further supporting the professional development of the winning artist. The competition is open exclusively to Qatar-based residents, and applications must be submitted before the deadline of August 23, 2026, allowing ample time for participants to refine their concepts and submissions.

The objective of the competition is to create an original artwork that captures the spirit of the tournament and serves as the official visual identity for the tournament year. The selected artwork will not only be featured prominently in promotional materials but will also become part of a collectible annual commission, celebrating the ongoing legacy of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.

Participants are encouraged to interpret the tournament through their own artistic lens, drawing inspiration from themes such as tennis and movement, competition and excellence, Qatar’s culture, landscape and identity, community and international exchange, and energy, rhythm, and performance. These themes are integral to the tournament's identity and provide a rich tapestry of ideas for artists to explore in their submissions.

Organizers advise avoiding dates in the artwork to ensure it remains timeless. This directive encourages artists to focus on universal themes and emotions associated with the sport, allowing the artwork to transcend the specific year of the tournament and resonate with audiences for years to come. The artwork should be contemporary, distinctive, and capable of representing both the tournament and Qatar on an international stage, reflecting the nation's aspirations and cultural values.

Submission requirements include one primary artwork proposal, a short concept statement of up to 500 words, an artist biography and portfolio, and a high-resolution digital file of the proposed artwork, with optional mock-ups demonstrating potential applications. This comprehensive submission process ensures that the organizers receive a clear understanding of each artist's vision and capabilities, facilitating a fair evaluation of the entries.

The selected artwork may be adapted and applied across official tournament posters, tickets and accreditation, digital and social media communications, internal and external marketing materials, tournament publications, merchandise and retail products, venue graphics, and selected branding elements, as well as commemorative and archival materials. This wide range of applications underscores the importance of creating a versatile and impactful design that can effectively communicate the tournament's identity across various platforms.

Entries will be assessed on originality and creativity, artistic quality and execution, relevance to the tournament and host country, strength of concept and storytelling, adaptability across multiple formats and applications, and their potential to become part of the tournament’s annual legacy. This rigorous evaluation process ensures that the chosen artwork not only meets aesthetic standards but also aligns with the tournament's mission and values.

Artists will retain authorship and will be credited in all reasonable applications, while the tournament organizers will acquire the rights necessary to reproduce, adapt, and apply the selected artwork across tournament-related materials. This arrangement fosters a collaborative relationship between the artists and the organizers, allowing for creative input while ensuring that the artwork is utilized effectively in promoting the tournament.

Any modifications or adaptations will be undertaken in consultation with the artist where possible, reinforcing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the original artwork while also ensuring it meets the practical needs of the tournament's promotional efforts.
