After having been quite aware for some time about the present status of the Bidhan Villah, also known as the Circuit House Shillong at Laban, Kench’s Trace, I simply fail to comprehend if the century-old historic building, built by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Ray, former Chief Minister of West Bengal, is in the immediate or near future plan of demolition by the Public Works Department of the state government due to administrative reasons.

The Bidhan Villah holds significant historical and architectural value, representing a blend of colonial and indigenous influences that characterize much of Shillong’s architectural heritage. Built in the early 20th century, the building is not merely a structure of bricks and mortar; it is a repository of memories and stories that reflect the region's socio-political evolution. Dr. B.C.
