Noel Tata announces his resignation as Voltas chairman during the 72nd AGM, marking the end of his leadership tenure.

In a significant leadership change within the Tata Group, Noel Tata has announced his resignation as chairman of Voltas, a leading cooling products manufacturer. This announcement came during the company's 72nd annual general meeting (AGM), held on June 30, 2026. Tata's decision follows closely on the heels of his recent resignation as chairman of Trent, another prominent Tata Group firm.

During his address to shareholders, the 69-year-old Tata confirmed that this would be his final AGM in the capacity of chairman. "As you might be aware, this will be my last annual general meeting as Chairman," he stated, marking a poignant moment in his long-standing association with the company.

Tata expressed confidence in Voltas's future, highlighting the company’s successful development of its next generation of leaders through a mix of internal promotions and lateral hiring. He emphasized that the management team is well-equipped to drive the company’s growth moving forward. "I am confident that with the close cooperation of seasoned practitioners and new talent, your company will continue to take big strides in all segments," he remarked.

In his farewell address, Tata extended his gratitude to shareholders, employees, and partners for their unwavering support throughout his tenure. He expressed satisfaction with Voltas's current market position and growth trajectory, stating, "I would like to sincerely thank all our shareholders, colleagues, and partners for your trust, understanding, and constant support over the years."

Noel Tata's journey with Voltas began on January 27, 2003, when he joined the board. He ascended to the role of non-executive chairman on September 1, 2017, succeeding Ishaat Hussain. His leadership has been marked by significant milestones, including the recent achievement of Voltas's room air-conditioner division, which crossed the milestone of 1 million units sold in just 81 days, reaffirming its market leadership.

Earlier this month, on June 23, Tata had made a similar announcement regarding his resignation from Trent, a leading Indian fashion and lifestyle retailer. As he approaches his 70th birthday in November, Tata's departure aligns with the stipulations of the Companies Act 2013, which mandates that any Managing Director or Whole-Time Director cannot continue in their role if they are 70 years of age or older.

In his address, Tata highlighted the company's robust performance entering the current financial year, stating, "I have great satisfaction that Voltas stands strong today, having entered the new financial year on a strong note." He also acknowledged the contributions of employees and joint venture partners to the company's success.

With a career spanning 40 years within the Tata Group, Noel Tata has held various significant positions. He currently serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors for multiple Tata entities, including Trent, Tata Investment Corporation, Tata International, and Trent Hypermarket. Additionally, he is the Vice-Chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company Ltd.

As the company prepares for this transition, stakeholders remain optimistic about Voltas's future under new leadership, confident that the groundwork laid by Noel Tata will continue to foster growth and innovation.
